Our Goal
Everything we do is centered on one mission: growing the game of lacrosse in West Bloomfield. By introducing new players to the sport, supporting youth programs, reducing financial barriers, and investing in future opportunities, we are building a stronger lacrosse community for generations to come.
West Bloomfield Lacrosse 501(c)(3) History
West Bloomfield Lacrosse (WBL) began as the West Bloomfield High School Boys Lacrosse Booster group. We supported the needs of the 100% self funded high school boys lacrosse program through volunteer efforts and fundraising.
The WBHS Boys Lacrosse Boosters recognized several barriers limiting participation in the sport. One of the most significant challenges was access to equipment, particularly in boys lacrosse, where the cost of helmets, shoulder pads, arm pads, gloves, and sticks can be prohibitive for many families for their children starting a new sport. We saw a growing need to expand equipment access and create opportunities for boys to participate regardless of their financial circumstances.
To effectively obtain and distribute equipment donations, secure in-kind contributions from businesses, and pursue financial grants that would benefit the broader lacrosse community, the organization recognized the need to become a charitable nonprofit. In 2024, the organization transitioned from a booster group to an independent 501(c)(3) charitable organization dedicated to the growth and development of lacrosse throughout West Bloomfield.
The transition also reflected a broader vision for the future of lacrosse in our community. While the booster group's original focus was supporting the high school boys lacrosse program, we recognized the importance of creating opportunities for all youth athletes—boys and girls of all ages, backgrounds, and skill levels.
By expanding our mission, we could focus on growing the game at every level by introducing new players to lacrosse, developing youth programs, reducing barriers to participation, and creating a stronger pipeline from youth lacrosse through high school competition. Our goal is not only to increase participation but also to build a sustainable and inclusive lacrosse community that supports athletes throughout their development.
Through this expanded vision, West Bloomfield Lacrosse is able to strengthen existing programs, support emerging opportunities, and ensure that every child who wants to play lacrosse has the opportunity to do so within the West Bloomfield community.
In 2025 the school district decided to support boys and girls high school lacrosse as a school-sponsored sport starting in 2026. To accommodate this milestone, we split off a separate booster group in 2025 to manage and assist with the high school boys' day-to-day management, allowing WBL to focus on its broader community-wide mission of growing the game.
Today, West Bloomfield Lacrosse's mission is to expand access to the sport, increase participation, and create inclusive opportunities for youth of all skill levels to learn and play lacrosse. Through equipment assistance, player development programs, community outreach, grants, and partnerships with our schools, WBL works to increase exposure, remove barriers to participation and build an inclusive, sustainable lacrosse pathway from introductory programs through high school competition.
West Bloomfield Lacrosse is committed to growing the game by supporting girls and boys programs, developing future athletes and leaders, and strengthening the connection between youth, school, and community lacrosse programs. By investing in opportunities for young athletes today, WBL is helping ensure a strong and vibrant future for lacrosse in the West Bloomfield community.
